Stonefly Nymphs: The Year-Round Secret
Although many anglers in Northern Europe tend to overlook them, Stonefly Nymphs are a well-known secret weapon for fishermen in places like the United States and Canada. These imitations could very well be called the "year-round fly" because the nymphs are active throughout the entire year. Fish, especially large trout, are quick to take advantage of these protein-rich snacks whenever they get the chance.
Unlike many mayfly species, stonefly nymphs don't swim to the surface to hatch. Instead, they crawl out onto the shoreline or use plants, logs, and stones to climb up and emerge. Due to their poor swimming ability, they stay close to the bottom for most of their lives. However, from time to time, they'll let go and drift downstream to find new habitats, making them an easy and tempting target for fish like brown trout.
J:son offers two main variants: with or without Tungsten, and with or without a barb (barbless).
Remember to fish your imitations close to the bottom. No matter where you are in the world, a stonefly nymph imitation will catch fish.
