Realistic Semi-Dry Cricket

Experience the ultimate in technical fly fishing with the J:son Cricket 4 Black #12 Many terrestrials are often found close to the water. Among these you will find crickets, craneflies, ants, bumblebees, wasps and bees. All of these will occasionally end up on the surface of the water and become the target for many fish species, such as grayling, char, rainbow trout and brown trout.

This specific model is a semi-dry fly, meaning it is designed to sit low in the water and slowly sink through the surface film. This mimics a cricket that has struggled on the surface and is starting to drown—a stage where terrestrials are most vulnerable and irresistible to trophy fish.

Why choose the J:son Semi-Dry Cricket?

The J:son Cricket 4 Black is engineered to provide a realistic profile both on and just below the surface. Most terrestrials that end up on the water do so by mistake. A strong wind, a heavy rain or cold temperatures will limit their abilities to move or fly. As this fly slowly submerses, it imitates the natural movement of a dying insect, often triggering strikes from cautious fish that ignore high-floating dry flies.

  • Action: Semi-dry / Slow sinking.

  • Target Species: Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Grayling, and Char.

  • Best Season: Late spring to early autumn, especially after heavy winds or rain.

  • Fishing Tactic: Cast it near overhanging banks. Let it sit on the surface for a few seconds, then allow it to slowly sink. Use subtle twitches to mimic a struggling insect.
