Description

Fly Type: This is a versatile dry fly, often functioning as an emerger imitation or a spent caddis. The parachute hackle sits flush with the surface film, presenting a realistic silhouette of an insect either struggling to emerge, or spent after egg-laying. The dark grey body would imitate various darker caddis species or small, dark mayflies.

Best Suited For: This fly is highly effective for trout (brown, rainbow, and brook trout) and grayling. It's particularly useful when fish are feeding selectively on emerging or spent insects, and a natural, low-profile presentation is crucial.

Best Time to Fish: This pattern is productive from spring through autumn, especially during and after caddis hatches. It can be fished successfully at any time of day when insects are active on the water, but it's particularly potent during the evening caddis "egg-laying" flights or during a midge/small mayfly emergence.

Water Type: This is a freshwater fly.

Where to Fish: The Canpara Grey is effective on rivers, streams, and stillwaters. It excels in slower runs, eddies, and tailouts where insects often collect. Its parachute design allows for excellent visibility for the angler while presenting a subtle profile to the fish.

Other Value: The parachute hackle helps the fly float well in the surface film and also makes it very easy to see for the angler, even in dim light. It's an excellent "match the hatch" pattern for when fish are keying in on small, darker insects that are either emerging or spent on the water.
