Description
Many terrestrials are often found close to the water. Among these, you will find craneflies, ants, bumblebees, wasps, and bees. All of these will occasionally end up on the water's surface and become the target for many fish species, such as grayling, char, rainbow trout, and brown trout.
Most terrestrials that end up on the water do so by mistake. A strong wind, heavy rain, or cold temperatures will limit their ability to move or fly, causing them to fall onto the surface. Once there, they are clumsy and vulnerable, creating a distinct silhouette and vibration that fish find impossible to resist. For the fly fisher, having realistic imitations of these "land-dwellers" is essential, especially during late summer and autumn when their activity is at its peak.
The Surface Dancer – J:son Cranefly Olive Grey The J:son Cranefly in Olive Grey is a masterfully crafted imitation of one of the most substantial meals a fish can find on the surface. Known for their long, dangling legs and large wings, craneflies (also known as "Daddy Long Legs") often trigger explosive takes when they clumsy land or skitter across the water. Our Olive Grey version perfectly captures the natural, muted tones of the most common species found near rivers and lakes.
Using J:son’s unique materials, we have solved the common problem with cranefly imitations: durability and balance. This fly features incredibly realistic, extended legs and a light, segmented body that ensures it floats high and maintains its silhouette even in moving water. Whether you are fishing during a windy day when they are blown off the grass, or late in the evening when they return to the water to oviposit, the J:son Cranefly is a deadly tool for targeting large, surface-feeding trout and grayling.
