Description

Goddard Sedge, a classic and highly effective dry fly pattern. It's designed to imitate an adult caddisfly, also known as a sedge, fluttering on the surface of the water. The fly's prominent, buoyant head and swept-back deer hair wing allow it to float high and create a disturbance on the water when twitched, perfectly mimicking a natural caddis.

Type of Fly: Dry Fly. This pattern is meant to be fished on the water's surface to imitate a living, adult insect.

Target Fish: The Goddard Sedge is an excellent fly for all species of trout (especially brown and rainbow trout) and grayling, as these fish are well-known for aggressively feeding on caddisflies.

When to Fish: This fly is most effective from late spring through autumn during a caddisfly hatch. The prime time to use it is in the evening when caddisflies become most active, often "skittering" across the surface to lay eggs.

Saltwater or Freshwater: This is a freshwater fly.

Best Fishing Locations: The Goddard Sedge is best fished in rivers and streams, especially in faster-moving water like riffles, where caddisflies thrive and are commonly found. It can also be very effective in still waters like lakes, particularly near the shore or in areas with aquatic vegetation.
