J:son Barbless Mayfly Nymph Series

Mastering the Subsurface: The Foundation of the Hatch To be a successful fly angler, one must understand what happens beneath the surface. Mayfly nymphs are active year-round and represent the most consistent food source for trout and grayling. Our Barbless Mayfly Nymph Series is anatomically engineered to mimic the three primary biological categories of nymphs: Digging, Swimming, and Clinging.

The Barbless Advantage This series is tied on premium barbless hooks. Beyond the obvious ethical benefits for Catch & Release, a barbless hook offers superior penetration. Without the resistance of a barb, the thinner wire slides effortlessly into the corner of the fish's mouth, ensuring a more secure hook-up.

Three Categories for Every Environment:

• Digging Nymphs: These are the giants of the bottom. Found in lakes and the slow-moving reaches of rivers, they prefer soft sand and silt. Our imitations of species like the Green Drake capture the larger profile and robust legs required to mimic these high-energy meals.

• Swimming Nymphs: These agile "athletes" of the insect world are found in both still and moving water. Examples like the Claret Dun are imitated with a streamlined profile, designed to mimic their darting movements as they swim through the water column.

• Clinging Nymphs: The "bodybuilders" of the stream. With a flat, low profile and powerful legs, species like the Yellow May Dun thrive in the roughest currents. Our imitations feature the characteristic short, compact body that allows them to hug the rocks where trout are watching.

Tactical Advice: Since nymphs spend nearly their entire lives near the substrate, fishing these imitations close to the bottom is essential when no hatch is visible. Use the anatomical realism of J:son to fool the most selective fish in the film or on the drift.
